About The Book

A contemplation on civilization, dharma & daily living

This treatise is not a history textbook. It is a darshan — a way of seeing India as a living mother, whose rivers, rituals and rishis shape a way of life.

01

About The Author

A lifelong student of Bharat’s living traditions

A lifelong student of Bharat's living traditions Khetdanji P. Gadhvi(1911-1988), a chaaran author and poet from village Sambarda near Palanpur in Gujarat, wrotes from the quiet of reflection, not the noise of debate. His work is rooted in years of observing how traditional Hindu life is actually lived — in villages, ashrams, homes and on the ghats of the Ganga. A polygloat, he wrote in English, Marwadi(dingal), Gujarati and Hindi, composing over a hundred songs & poems in vernacular reflecting and celebrating the traditions that mark the traditional Hindu way of life. He also collated and reproduced the lofty commentaries of western scholars to the many contributions of ancient India to Mankind

In India: The Mother of Mankind, he gathers insights from scriptures, oral histories, and lived practice to present Hindu dharma not as ritualism, but as a compassionate science of life. The cover image of Lakshman Jhula — the swaying bridge over the Ganga at Rishikesh — is symbolic: taken in 1971 by his son Dr. C.K. Gadhvi, it shows the author at the banks of ganga in meditative thought.
